Sheet counts assume standard 4-foot-wide board on framed walls; fire-rated assemblies, moisture-resistant bathrooms, and ceiling applications change board type (not the count math) per code. Weight figures assume ½-in standard board — 5/8-in type-X runs heavier per sheet.

Two carriers for 12-foot sheets, head and eye protection during overhead work, and dust management (silica) are the safety floor of this project. Verify local requirements for garages and shared walls.

Accuracy of calculations

We implement well-known, publicly documented formulas (see the methodology section on each calculator page and GA-216 application standards and manufacturer coverage charts as applicable). Even correctly implemented formulas produce estimates that depend on your inputs and assumptions. Real-world outcomes vary. Do not rely on a single web tool for a consequential decision.
